For a long time, it has been regarded as the ideal solvent for post-solder cleaning of printed circuit board components.
However, in recent years, it has been found that CFC-113 has a destructive effect on the ozone layer in high altitude. In order to avoid the destruction of the earth’s environment, the substitutes for CFC have been developed, which are mainly the following three kinds.
1. Improved CFC. this solvent is in the chlorofluorocarbon molecule introduced hydrogen atoms to promote its can be in the atmosphere in the speed of decomposition, to reduce the damage to the ozone layer, according to estimates, only about 1/10 of CFC, this CFC alternative solution with HCFC.
2. semi-aqueous cleaning solvent. Characterised by both the ability to dissolve rosin, but also dissolved in water, mainly terpene solvents and hydrocarbon mixture of solvents. Terpene solvents are mainly composed of hydrocarbons and organic acids, it can be biodegradable, will not destroy the ozone layer, non-toxic, non-corrosive, flux residues have a good ability to dissolve. Hydrocarbon mixture solvents are mainly composed of hydrocarbon mixtures and contain polar and non-polar components, improving the ability to dissolve a variety of pollutants. Semi-aqueous cleaners are now widely regarded as the most promising alternative solvents.
3. Aqueous cleaners. Its composition is a polar water-based inorganic substances, usually using a saponifier and welding residue “saponification reaction” to generate water-soluble fatty acid salts, and then rinsed with deionised water. This cleaning material is an effective alternative to CFC solvent cleaning, mainly used for low-density component cleaning.
At present, the cleaning agent is continuing to non-toxic, does not destroy the atmospheric ozone layer, does not have a destructive effect on the natural environment, will not produce new hazards, can be efficiently cleaned in the direction of high-density SMA.
